Chapter 2 Students and Learning

Chapter 3 New Tools

A key point is that "Education is changing." The fact that teachers need better tools and training to use those tools is critical in moving our students forward in this fast paced technological environment.

Technology does affect our students on a daily basis and we as teachers must embrace these changes in order to differentiate instruction, engage students, and ensure they are successful as they move forward. We must work collaboratively to be 'in the game' and not find ourselves being an observer on the sidelines.

We as educators must learn about new tools as they become available! I hadn't even heard of half of the tools listed in the chapter! I'm excited to gain more knowledge and help my peers and students drink in this knowledge as well!

Chapter 7, 8, and 9

Assumptions- Students are actively engaged and have some understanding of technology. Teachers are facilitators of technology and understand the importance of security measures in ensuring a safe learning environment. Teachers have an awareness of the district rules/regulations related to technology. Everyone has access to technology. Faculty and staff have a desire to advance in the area of technology.
Agree- Allow students to participate in the development of an online safety guide. Explaining ethical behavior and modeling such behavior will be on going and fluid as we develop technology based classroom communities. Involve parents in training and informational sessions about technology. Technology serves as a way to reach ESE and ELL learners.
Argue- Teachers should not be the primary source for teaching online safety. Parental involvement is a must!
Aspire- Allow parents to come in and participate in lessons with a focus on technology. Have technology nights where we are demonstrating the tools that are available to enhance students success at home and at school. Equitable access for all students in all schools is needed.
